This concert, the MSO’s first under the baton of newly appointed principal conductor Stephen Smith (pictured), will open with the celebratory prelude to the first act of Wagner’s opera The Mastersingers of Nuremberg. The orchestra will then perform Beethoven’s revolutionary 1st Piano Concerto with David Alexander, a welcome return visit since David’s much acclaimed performance of Rachmaninov’s 2nd Piano Concerto in 2007. The programme will end with Tchaikovsky’s delightfully melodic 1st Symphony.
