Sir Roy Strong, historian, writer, broadcaster, diarist and gardener, asks the question “What is England” in his consideration of what makes Englishness. The change from Empire to Commonwealth and then the more recent process of devolution prompts us to consider not what we share but what sets us apart. The English have traditionally been reluctant to identify themselves but all that is changing. The evening will include an opportunity to ask your own question and a book signing after the event.
