FRANKENSTEIN: THE YEAR WITHOUT A SUMMER
By
Helen Davis
In May 1816 Mary and Percy Shelley travelled to Lake Geneva to stay with the infamous Lord Byron. It was here, by candlelight, that Mary discussed her fascination with the medical experiments of the 18th century, specifically the ability to animate dead matter and the horrors of restoring a corpse to life. Prompted by her imagination, Byron forms a challenge… for Mary to create a supernatural story entirely of her own. Inspired by reality and driven by fiction the three of them unfold Mary’s tale, creating one of the greatest stories of all time.
