CORIOLANUS Cert: 15

With: Ralph Fiennes, Gerard Butler, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave

UK 2011

Duration: 2hrs

For his directing debut, Ralph Fiennes takes on one of Shakespeare’s darkest tragedies, updating the setting from pre-imperial Rome to a modern military conflict, but retaining Shakespeare’s text. Fiennes plays the titular Roman general whose successful campaign against a neighbouring tribe earns him high political office. But his dismissive attitude to political niceties soon makes him persona non grata in the corridors of power. Sent into exile, he starts to plot a terrible revenge. “…a very muscular, intense interpretation.” TheFilmPilgrim.com.
BBFC advice: contains strong bloody violence.
